Union Fire Company along with mutual aid
first alarm assignments, Seneca Hose (Covering for Winchester Fire Company, whom
was out of service) and Vigilant Fire Companies, were alerted to the report
of a basement fire at a French Road residence in the Northern part of Unions’
jurisdiction. The Reserve Fire Company was out alerted to respond with their
FAST Team. Union Second Assistant Chief Joe
Kazmierski arrived on location reporting a fire on the first floor of the
residence, in a rear utility room. Further investigation by crews from the
three departments would unveil that the small fire, believed to have started
by a malfunctioning boiler unit, had burned through the first floor into the
basement ceiling area. First Assistant Chief, The fire, which was easily
extinguished was confined to the first floor utility room and basement
ceiling, firefighters removed the faulty boiler unit from the residence,
ventilated the structure, and were back in service with a little more than an
