Lightening listed as cause in Clinton Street Fire

After investigation was complete, West Seneca Police Department Fire Investigators ruled that a lightening strike was the cause of a small fire that started in a piece of machinery inside Shell Fabrication and Design – 2855 Clinton Street on Wednesday April 20, 2011 at around1:30 in the morning.

West Seneca Police were already on location due to receiving a burglar alarm activation at the facility, discovered smoke and fire on the South side of the commercial building and signaled West Seneca Dispatch to alert Union Fire Company, along with mutual aid first alarm assignments; Winchester and Vigilant.

Fire Officials would arrive on location and declare a Working Fire as fire was emitting from the machinery and had already begun to spread up an exterior wall. The facility which manufacturers custom counter tops and cabinets, is known to contain numerous flammable materials and adhesives.

With smoke puffing out open doors, firefighters deployed two 1 ¾” lines into action to extinguish the flames that were contained to a small portion of the building. It was estimated that the blaze was knocked down by crews within a 40-minute period of time. There was no extension to other portions of the structure.

West Seneca Police Fire Investigators remained on location after the fire searching for probable causes when it was traced to lightening; which had been frequent in the area this night, had struck the facility, causing the machinery to start on fire and spread to the structure. No immediate damage estimate was available, Doyle Fire Company of Cheektowaga was also dispatched to fill in at Winchesters’ Fire Hall.
