Water Rescue Course Hosted by Vigilant

            Firefighters from Vigilant, Union, Seneca Hose, East Seneca, and Winchester devoted 3-days; April 01 through 03 to develop skills in Swift Water Rescue, through training offered by Dive Rescue International and hosted by Vigilant Fire Company.

            The 3-day course offered every couple years to West Seneca Firefighters, begins with classroom training on Friday Night, and hands on in water training over Saturday and Sunday. The training is used to certify personnel to become part of the Town wide West Seneca Water Rescue Team.

            Union Fire Company elected to send four firefighters to this years training to bolster the number of personnel already certified to respond for Union when an water rescue incident arises.

            The West Seneca Water Rescue Team has already been summoned once already in 2011, to assist other teams, Erie County Sheriffs, and firefighters in the search for a missing Evans girl in March. Numerous other requests for the team have been received from other municipalities over the course of the past several years.

            The West Seneca Team has also experienced numerous incidents of varying degrees on the two local creeks that past through West Seneca, Cazenovia Creek and Buffalo Creek which runs through Unions’ District..
